First I want to apologize for falling so far behind on posting here at TOAM. Sometimes as you all know life throws us a curve ball and certain projects have to get put on the back burner for a bit. I am happy to say that I will be posting more often again! I have set up a new posting schedule that correlates better with my busier lifestyle. Play, Repeat: My Current Song Obsession will now be posted bi- weekly as I am hoping to get more in depth with each of the songs. The poetry prompts will remain on a weekly basis and the All Cancer Awareness posts will also remain the same. However this year I am trying to incorporate lesser known and rarer cancers as well as the more well known cancers. So thank you all for your patience and for reading my posts! Be on the lookout for more here on TOAM very soon!
February 4th was World Cancer Day, so this post is quite a bit late. I believe that it was meant to be that way though.
I have been working on All Cancer Awareness to bring my mother’s vision to light and to help others out who find themselves or loved ones with a diagnosis of cancer. I wanted to give people a place to turn to and give them some helpful first steps with the information I post. I was beginning to think that although I was posting all of this information was I really helping people and making a difference?
A few weeks ago someone I know approached me privately and asked to speak with me. She said she had some personal questions. I honestly didn’t really know what to think but I am grateful that I took the time out to listen. She told me that her Grandmother was just recently diagnosed with Non- Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and wanted to know if I knew anything about it. She only knew about my Mother having lung cancer but had no knowledge of what I do here on TOAM. I was happy to print out some information for her and she was so grateful when I handed her that paper.
I didn’t think I could be making much of a difference. The truth is I underestimated what a difference I could make to someone.
Don’t underestimate the difference you can make in someone’s life.
February 4th is World Cancer Day.
A year ago today I launched my mother’s vision of bringing awareness to all cancers not just lung cancer which she was diagnosed. Today is a reminder that I am a living legacy and I can carry out her visions. I will continue to share her story and bring awareness.
It is also a reminder of the bravery and strength of not only my mom but, my young cousin Kailynne. I know that they both watch over me.
Today is for you both.
I have so many new ideas for TOAM I cannot wait to get started on all these new projects!
First off, TOAM will be getting updated a lot more ( since I now have a stable internet connnection!)
I plan on continuing again this year with the All Cancer Awareness posts as well as posting my poetry. I am hoping to also add to TOAM articles about animals and music (and probably lots of other topics too just to bring out some variety to the posts!)
I am currently working on designing a new logo and updating pictures to bring in 2014 with a new look. (So far I think its coming out pretty awesome if I say so myself!)
So long story short- Expect more this year from Twist Of A Millennia!!!
It sure has been a crazy and fast year! I have so many plans for TOAM for 2014, I am hoping that you all will join me! I really love the people on this site and the support from everyone from all over the world has been inspiring to me to continue with the site and reach for higher goals in the upcoming year. Thank you so much to all of you for every view, like, comment. It really has motivated me!!!
Here’s to the New Year! Cheers!
Today is World Cancer Day
My Mother also had another vision .. to bring more awareness to ALL cancers not just lung cancer which she had been diagnosed with.
It begins now….
Each month on TOAM I will be covering a different type of cancer. I will try to find as much information and as many resourceful links in hopes that it may help someone that is researching/diagnosed.
To start bringing this vision to life here are some great sites that offer information on cancers, volunteering and updates on research:
American Cancer Society: http://www.cancer.org/
Stand Up To Cancer: http://www.standup2cancer.org/
National Cancer Institute: http://www.cancer.gov/
Some really awesome sites that help to bring smiles during a rough time:
Make A Wish: http://wish.org/
Granting Dreams Foundation: http://grantingdreams.org/ (It’s similar to Make A Wish except it’s for everyone19 and older)
If you haven’t already go read my Mom’s story: https://twistofamillennia.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/a-promise-kept-my-mothers-story/
Also if you are on the Stand Up To Cancer page on Facebook, you can add a photo on there today to honor yourself or someone you know that has battled or is currently battling cancer.
For them I won’t give in and I won’t give up.
A month already?
When I first started Twist of a Millennia, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was hoping for maybe a few likes or views here or there and if I was lucky a few follows. I wasn’t expecting many to read what I had to write. I was pleasantly surprised at this community of bloggers here and how it motivated me to pursue more writing and other goals of my blog. I am still in awe at all of the views, likes and follows from all around the world. It’s so awesome to be able to connect with others through this.
I have so many goals that I want to accomplish that are currently in the works. I cannot wait to see them unfold and hope that all of you( and maybe some more along the way) will come along for the journey further in to the Twist of A Millennia.
This is for all of you
For every view, for every like, for every comment, for every follow… Thank you, it means more than you all will know.
